Everything you need to fly cheap from Muscat to India in 2026: which airlines fly non-stop to Kochi, Kozhikode, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi and more, what a ticket really costs once you add a suitcase, the cheapest months, Air Suvidha and Indian customs on gold — and how SKY LINE TRAVEL finds your fare in one message.
More people fly from Muscat to India than to any other country. Nurses going home to Kerala for a wedding, engineers flying to Hyderabad for a long weekend, families heading to Mumbai for Diwali, students, patients, and grandparents coming back after a few months with the grandchildren: the Muscat–India route never sleeps, and some of its busiest flights leave at three in the morning.
That traffic is good news for price, because five airlines compete for it. It is also why so many travellers end up paying more than they planned: the cheapest fare on the screen often has no checked bag at all, a change costs more than the ticket, and the same seat can be twice the price in the third week of December. This guide puts everything in one place: who flies where from Muscat, what a ticket really costs, the cheapest months, baggage, Air Suvidha and Indian customs, plus what to do at Muscat airport so you never miss a flight.
Route status — 8 October 2026: flights between Muscat and India are operating normally. Omani airspace stayed open throughout 2026 and Muscat International runs 24 hours a day. A few flights take a slightly longer path around closed airspace in the region, and timetables change with the winter schedule on 25 October 2026 — check your flight the day before you travel, or ask our desk to check it for you.

Which airlines fly non-stop from Muscat to India?
Four airlines carry almost all the non-stop traffic between Muscat International (MCT) and India, and each one has a different personality. Oman Air is the full-service choice with the widest network and a meal and checked bag even on its cheapest fare. SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost airline, often has the lowest headline price but sells baggage separately. Air India Express is the Air India Group’s low-cost arm and is strongest to Kerala and South India. IndiGo, India’s largest airline, flies daily to Mumbai and Kochi and includes a generous checked bag. Air India itself has flown Muscat–Delhi, but its schedule has been unclear since July 2026, so treat it as a bonus rather than a plan.

Kochi has the most choice: Oman Air flies it up to twice a day, and Air India Express and IndiGo both have a daily overnight flight — for example Air India Express IX442 leaves Muscat at 02:50 and lands in Kochi at 08:00 Indian time. Mumbai is the most competitive route and usually the cheapest, because four airlines fight for it. If you are heading to Goa, there is no non-stop flight from Muscat: fly to Mumbai and connect, or take a one-stop ticket. Akasa Air, which many travellers search for, does not fly to Muscat.

Remember the clock: India is one and a half hours ahead of Oman, all year round. A flight that leaves Muscat at 04:20 and takes 3 h 40 lands at about 09:30 in India. Many Kerala flights are overnight “red-eyes” — cheap and convenient if you can sleep on a plane, hard work with small children. Tell us who is travelling and we will suggest the timing that suits the family, not just the cheapest seat.
How much is a ticket from Muscat to India?
Outside the holidays, one-way economy fares from Muscat to India usually start between OMR 42 and OMR 70. In early October 2026 the airlines were showing these “from” prices on their own websites:
| Route | Airline | From (one way) | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muscat → Kozhikode | Air India Express | OMR 42 | Xpress Lite: cabin bag only |
| Muscat → Mumbai | Oman Air | OMR 45 | Super Saver: 20 kg checked + 7 kg cabin |
| Muscat → Chennai | Oman Air | OMR 50 | Super Saver: 20 kg + 7 kg |
| Muscat → Delhi | Air India Express | OMR 52 | Xpress Lite: cabin bag only |
| Muscat → Bengaluru | Oman Air | OMR 52 | Super Saver: 20 kg + 7 kg |
| Muscat → Kochi | Air India Express | OMR 54 | Xpress Lite: cabin bag only |
| Muscat → Kochi | Oman Air | OMR 64 | Super Saver: 20 kg + 7 kg |
| Muscat → Mangaluru | Air India Express | OMR 71 | Xpress Lite: cabin bag only |
Look at the last column before you look at the price. An OMR 54 Air India Express ticket to Kochi with no checked bag and an OMR 64 Oman Air ticket with 20 kg included are much closer than they look once you buy a suitcase allowance — and at the airport, excess baggage is far more expensive than buying it online. In the busiest weeks the picture changes completely: before Eid al-Adha and the Indian-school summer break in 2026, one-way fares reached OMR 100–150 on the busiest days, with Kerala the most expensive and Mumbai the cheapest because of the competition.
The cheapest months to fly from Muscat to India
Muscat–India fares follow the calendars of two countries at once: Indian festivals, Omani public holidays and, above all, the holidays of the Indian schools in Oman, when thousands of families fly on the same few days. Plan around these dates and you can save more than any discount code will.
| When | What drives it | Fares | Our advice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Late October – early November | New winter schedule from 25 October, before Diwali week | Low | One of the best windows of the year |
| Diwali — 8 November 2026 | Families heading to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Lucknow and Jaipur | High for North India | Book now if you want to be home for Diwali |
| Oman National Day holiday — 25–26 November | With the weekend, a four-day break (25–28 November) | Rising | Short trips sell out first: book early |
| Mid-November – mid-December | Between the holidays | Low | Very good value, especially to Kerala |
| 20 December – 2 January | Indian-school winter break plus Christmas and New Year | Highest of the winter | Book as early as you can; avoid 18–20 December outbound |
| Mid-January – February | Quiet season after the holidays | Low | The cheapest time for a family visit |
| Eid al-Fitr (around March 2027) | Public holiday in Oman | High | Book a month or more ahead |
| Late May – July | Summer school break and Eid al-Adha | Peak | Book months ahead; consider Mumbai and a connection |
- Compare “fare + bag”, never the headline fare. Add the suitcase you will really carry before deciding which airline is cheapest.
- Be flexible by a day or two. Midweek flights are often cheaper than the Thursday-night and Saturday rush around the Omani weekend.
- Check the neighbouring airports. Kochi, Kozhikode, Kannur and Trivandrum are all in Kerala; if one is expensive, another may not be.
- Mix airlines on a return trip. Low-cost airlines price each direction separately, so going with one airline and returning with another is normal — and often cheaper.
- Book holiday dates early. For the winter break, Eid and the summer exodus, the cheap seats go weeks or months before departure.
- Write the names exactly as in the passport. A name correction can cost more than the price difference you were chasing.

Baggage on Muscat–India flights: what the cheapest fare includes
Baggage is where the Muscat–India route surprises people most, because the four airlines do it very differently. Since April 2026, Oman Air includes 20 kg even on its cheapest Super Saver fare to India. IndiGo includes 30 kg on Gulf routes. SalamAir Lite and Air India Express Xpress Lite include no checked bag at all — you pay for the suitcase on top, or choose a higher fare.
| Airline and fare | Cabin bag | Checked bag | Next fare up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oman Air — Economy Super Saver | 7 kg + small personal item | 20 kg on India routes | Comfort 30 kg, Flex 40 kg |
| IndiGo — Saver | 7 kg + 3 kg personal item | 30 kg (check your e-ticket) | Up to 45 kg on higher fares |
| Air India Express — Xpress Lite | 7 kg | None | Xpress Value: 30 kg in two pieces |
| SalamAir — Lite | 5 kg under-seat bag only | None | Value and Flexi bundles include checked baggage |
- Buy extra kilos online, not at the airport. Every airline sells baggage cheaper on its website or through us than at the check-in desk.
- Gold and jewellery go in your hand luggage, never in a checked bag.
- One piece may not exceed 32 kg on any of these airlines, even if your allowance is higher — split heavy boxes into two.
- Travelling with a baby? Air India Express adds 10 kg for an infant on fares with a checked bag; ask us about the others.

Documents: what you need to fly from Muscat to India
What you need depends on your passport. The one rule that catches people out in 2026 is the Air Suvidha 2.0 self-declaration: India brought it back on 25 June 2026 as a health precaution after the WHO declared an Ebola emergency, and it applies to every international arrival, Indian citizens included. It is free, takes five minutes and the airline checks it at boarding. Because it is temporary and can be withdrawn at short notice, check the official site the day before you fly.
| Traveller | Documents | Forms before you fly |
|---|---|---|
| Indian citizens | Valid Indian passport (lost or expired: an Emergency Certificate from the Embassy of India in Muscat) | Air Suvidha 2.0 self-declaration |
| OCI cardholders | Foreign passport + OCI card | Air Suvidha 2.0 and the e-Arrival Card (since 1 April 2026) |
| Omani citizens and other foreign nationals | Passport + Indian visa or e-Visa (eligibility depends on your nationality, not your Oman residence) | Air Suvidha 2.0 and the e-Arrival Card |
Apply for an Indian e-Visa only on the official indianvisaonline.gov.in portal and fill in the health form only on airsuvidha.civilaviation.gov.in — both are free or charged only by the government, so ignore websites that sell them at a mark-up. Indian citizens whose passport has expired or been lost should start with the Embassy of India in Muscat, which issues one-way Emergency Certificates through its service centres across Oman.

0 of 7 readyFor Oman residents: you need no exit permit to leave, but your resident card must still be valid when you come back, and if you will be out of Oman for more than six months you need permission from the Royal Oman Police beforehand, or your residence can lapse. Indian customs in 2026: gold, gifts and the new duty-free limits
India replaced its baggage rules on 2 February 2026, and the changes matter to everyone coming home from the Gulf. The general duty-free allowance rose to ₹75,000, and the jewellery allowance is now counted by weight, not value, as announced by the Government of India:
- Jewellery: up to 40 g for women and 20 g for other passengers, duty-free, if you have lived abroad for more than a year. The old rupee value limits are gone.
- Gold bars and coins have no free allowance: declare them in the red channel and pay the duty.
- General goods (gifts, electronics, chocolates and so on): up to ₹75,000 duty-free for residents and travellers of Indian origin; ₹25,000 for foreign tourists.
- One laptop per adult passenger is duty-free.
- Undeclared gold can be confiscated and fined — if in doubt, declare it.
At Muscat International Airport: do not miss your India flight
Every India flight leaves from Muscat’s single passenger terminal, and the rules there are strict. The one that catches people out: boarding gates close 40 minutes before departure, and late passengers are refused even if they have checked in.
- Arrive three hours before departure — the airport’s own advice. Around holidays, give yourself even more time.
- Check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure on every airline.
- Check in online to save time: Oman Air from 48 hours before, Air India Express from 14 days before. SalamAir’s online check-in is free from 24 to 8 hours before — after that it costs OMR 4.9 per passenger, so do it early.
- Be at the gate at least 40 minutes before departure, when the gates close.
- Overnight flights to Kerala leave between about 02:00 and 04:00 — set two alarms and book your taxi the evening before.
