Staying in Jeddah
Jeddah, on the Red Sea coast, is Saudi Arabia’s second city and the usual gateway for pilgrims travelling on to Makkah. Its long Corniche is lined with parks, sculptures and hotels facing the sea, and the King Fahd Fountain can be seen from much of the waterfront. Al Balad, the historic district, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with coral-stone houses, carved wooden balconies and busy souks; staying nearby puts you in the middle of the old city’s evening life. The north of the city, along the Corniche and around Obhur, has newer hotels and resorts with beach access, and the districts near the airport suit a short stop between flights. Demand rises sharply during Ramadan and the Hajj season, so book early for those weeks. In our search every rate shows its meal plan and cancellation rule before payment, free-cancellation rates are marked. Online booking opens soon.

Questions about hotels in Jeddah
How far is Jeddah from Makkah?
About eighty kilometres, which takes under an hour and a half by road. Many pilgrims spend a night or two in Jeddah before travelling on to Makkah.
Where should I stay to visit Al Balad?
Hotels in the centre and around Al Balad put you close to the old lanes and souks. If you prefer the beach, the Corniche and Obhur are better choices.
Can I find a hotel during Ramadan and the Hajj season?
Yes, but demand is very high and hotels fill early. Search early, and if your plans are not fixed, choose a free-cancellation rate.
