Everything you need before flying to Oman in 2026: who can enter visa-free, the official eVisa types and fees, how a resident brings parents and relatives on a family visit visa, rules for Indians, Pakistanis, Egyptians and GCC residents, overstay fines, the land border from the UAE — and how to avoid fake visa websites.
Bringing your parents to Oman for the winter, planning a weekend in Muscat from Dubai, or flying in for a wedding: before you book the ticket, you need to know whether you need a visa — and which one. Oman’s rules are generous for many passports, but the details depend on your nationality, where you live and who is inviting you.
This guide explains the 2026 rules in plain words: who can enter visa-free for 14 days, the official eVisa types and their fees, the family visit visa for relatives of residents, the special rules for Indians, Pakistanis, Egyptians and GCC residents, overstay fines, and crossing by road from the UAE. Every fee comes from the Royal Oman Police (ROP) eVisa portal or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Checked on 11 October 2026. Visa rules can change without notice, and entry is always at the immigration officer’s discretion. The only official place to apply is the Royal Oman Police portal, evisa.rop.gov.om. Before you fly, log in there and see which visa types the system offers your passport.

Who can enter Oman without a visa?
Citizens of the GCC — Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain — need no visa at all. Beyond that, Oman lets citizens of more than 100 countries in for up to 14 days without a visa, in two groups published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
| Group | Examples | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Group 1 — no extra condition | UK, US, Canada, Australia, EU countries, Japan, South Korea, China, Russia, Türkiye, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, South Africa, Lebanon | None beyond the general rules below |
| Group 2 — with a condition | India, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Mexico, Vietnam, Maldives and others | A valid visa or residence permit of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan or Schengen — or GCC residence in an approved profession |
Visa-free visitors still need a passport valid for at least six months, a return ticket, a hotel booking, health insurance and enough money for the stay. The 14 days cannot be extended or turned into a residence visa; if you want to stay longer, choose a tourist eVisa instead. A spouse and children travelling with an eligible visitor can use the same exemption even if they hold another nationality. In August 2026 Oman also created a new free 14-day tourist visa for selected countries — the list is shown on the ROP portal when you apply.
Oman tourist eVisa: types and fees
If your passport is not visa-free, or you want to stay longer than 14 days, apply for an eVisa on evisa.rop.gov.om before you travel. Oman does not offer a general visa on arrival, and the official tourism portal says processing can take up to four days.
| Visa (ROP code) | Stay | Fee | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tourist visa 10 days (26A / 26N) | 10 days, single entry | OMR 5 | Use within 1 month of issue; can be extended once online |
| Tourist visa 30 days (26B / 26M) | 1 month, single entry | OMR 20 | Hotel booking and return ticket required |
| Tourist visa 1 year (36B / 36M) | Up to 1 month per visit, for a year | OMR 50 | Multiple entries; each stay cannot be extended |
| Sponsored tourist visa (6A / 6B) | 10 days or 1 month | OMR 5 / OMR 20 | Through an Omani hotel or tour company — for passports that cannot apply alone |
| Family visit visa (4B) | 1 week to 3 months | OMR 20 | Sponsored by a relative who lives in Oman; extendable by 1 month |
| GCC-resident visa (29A) | 28 days | OMR 5 | For GCC residents in approved professions; extendable by 1 week |
| Dubai / Oman common visa (21A) | 21 days | Free | For eligible Dubai tourist-visa holders arriving directly from Dubai |
Codes ending in N or M are for “Group 2” passports that hold a qualifying US, UK, Canadian, Australian, Japanese or Schengen visa. For every type you upload a passport copy and a photo, you must apply from outside Oman, and a tourist visa can never be changed into a work visa inside the country.

Family visit visa: bringing parents and relatives to Oman
For the hundreds of thousands of expatriates living in Oman, the most useful visa is the family visit visa (4B): the resident sponsors a relative’s visit for one week to three months, for a fee of OMR 20, with one extension of a month for another OMR 20. The ROP page for this visa lists no minimum salary — that rule applies to the separate family joining (residence) visa.
- The resident registers as a sponsor on evisa.rop.gov.om with their civil number — only Oman residents can do this.
- Apply on behalf of the relative and choose “Family Visit Visa — relative of a resident” (4B).
- Upload the documents: the visitor’s photo and passport copy, the sponsor’s passport and resident card, proof of the relationship, and a signed letter in which the sponsor takes responsibility for the visit.
- Wait for approval — the visitor must be outside Oman, and an earlier refused Oman visa can block the application.
- Book the flight once the visa is approved, and enter within three months of issue.
| Family visit visa (4B) | Family joining visa | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | A visit by parents, siblings and other relatives | Residence for a spouse and children |
| Length | 1 week to 3 months, +1 month extension | 2 years, multiple entry |
| Fee | OMR 20 | OMR 30 |
| Salary condition | None published | Yes — check the current minimum with ROP or your employer |
Oman visa by nationality

| Passport | Visa-free 14 days? | Usual options |
|---|---|---|
| India | Only with a valid US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan or Schengen visa or residence, or approved GCC residence | Tourist eVisa (26N/26M/36M with a qualifying visa), sponsored tourist visa, or family visit visa from a relative in Oman |
| Pakistan | No | Family visit visa from a resident relative, sponsored tourist visa through a hotel or tour company, or GCC-resident visa if eligible |
| Egypt, Jordan, Algeria | Only with a qualifying visa or residence, or approved GCC residence | Tourist eVisa or family visit visa |
| Morocco | Only with a qualifying visa or residence | For the eVisa route, only a Schengen visa issued in Morocco counts |
| Philippines | Yes — added in 2026 | Visa-free 14 days or a tourist eVisa for longer |
| Bangladesh | No | Restrictions since 2023 were only partly lifted; family and visit visas for GCC residents are possible — check before applying |
| Sri Lanka, Nepal, Sudan, Syria, Iraq | No | Visa in advance — usually a family visit or sponsored visa |
| GCC citizens | No visa needed | Enter with ID card or passport |
GCC residents — for example Indians or Pakistanis living in Dubai or Riyadh — can use the GCC-resident visa (29A): OMR 5 for 28 days, if their residence permit has at least six months left and the job title on the residence card is on Oman’s approved list. Officers check that job title, so domestic workers, drivers and some other professions are not eligible. Visitors who entered Dubai on a Dubai tourist visa may qualify for the free 21-day Dubai/Oman common visa when they travel straight to Oman. The long-awaited unified GCC tourist visa is not yet available for Oman.
Extensions, overstay fines and leaving Oman
- Overstay costs OMR 10 a day on a visit visa and OMR 20 a day on a residence visa.
- Pay fines before you go to the airport with the ROP online exit-penalty service or Gov.om — otherwise you may miss your flight at the passport counter.
- Extensions: the first extension of a tourist visa can be done online by the visitor; further ones at a Passports and Civil Status office. The 1-year visa and the Dubai/Oman common visa cannot be extended.
- The visa-free 14 days cannot be extended — switch to a tourist eVisa before the 14 days end.
Entering Oman by road from the UAE
The main crossing from Dubai is Hatta – Al Wajajah, open around the clock; Khatmat Malaha serves the Fujairah coast and Sohar, and the Al Ain – Buraimi crossings serve Abu Dhabi. The same visa rules apply at the border as at the airport. The UAE charges an exit fee of about AED 35 per person when you leave by land, and cars need insurance valid in Oman — either an Oman extension on your UAE policy or cover bought at the border. Rental cars also need a letter from the rental company allowing the trip. At weekends and Eid the queue can take two hours; flying Muscat–Dubai takes about an hour.

Documents to carry and common reasons for refusal
Oman visa checklist
0 of 7 ready- Wrong visa type — for example a Group 2 passport choosing a code without a qualifying visa.
- Unclear documents — blurred passport scan or photo, missing proof of relationship or the sponsor’s resident card.
- Applying from inside Oman, or already holding another valid Oman visa.
- A previous refusal — it can block a family visit visa.
- Name mismatch between the visa, the passport and the air ticket.
Beware of fake visa websites. Many look-alike sites with “oman-evisa” in the name resell the same OMR 5–20 visa for much more, or steal card details. The only official portal is evisa.rop.gov.om; you can track any application there. ROP eVisa help: 80080011 inside Oman, +968 22848200 from abroad.

Oman visa: frequently asked questions
How much is an Oman tourist visa?
On the official ROP portal: OMR 5 for 10 days, OMR 20 for 30 days and OMR 50 for a one-year multiple-entry visa (up to a month per visit). Many nationalities can also enter visa-free for 14 days.
Can Indians visit Oman without a visa?
Only if they hold a valid US, UK, Canadian, Australian, Japanese or Schengen visa or residence permit, or live in a GCC country in an approved profession. Otherwise they need an eVisa or a family visit visa sponsored by a relative in Oman.
How can I bring my parents to Oman?
As a resident, register as a sponsor on evisa.rop.gov.om and apply for a family visit visa (4B) for them: OMR 20, up to three months, with one extension of a month. You need your passport and resident card copies, proof of the relationship and a letter of undertaking.
Does Oman have a visa on arrival?
Not as a general tourist visa. Eligible nationalities get 14 days visa-free at the border, and some GCC residents can get the GCC-resident visa at the border; everyone else should apply for an eVisa before flying.
What is the fine for overstaying in Oman?
OMR 10 per day on a visit visa and OMR 20 per day on a residence visa. Pay it online before you go to the airport.
Is the GCC unified tourist visa valid for Oman?
Not yet. A pilot between Dubai and Bahrain is planned first; Oman is expected to join later. Use an Oman eVisa or visa-free entry for now.
